Early concept development for Ghost of Yotei
The main focus of this work was on the following ideas:
1. A region where strong winds are a defining element — a harsh environment once home to ancient fortresses. Over time, new settlers arrived and formed small communities.
2. The coexistence of traces of the past and present human life. The current inhabitants use remnants of the old structures to shield themselves from the wind.
3. Visually, the remains of the past exist outside the direct influence of the wind, while the marks of the present express the struggle and resilience of people living within it.
4. In a desolate land where resources are scarce and difficult to obtain, these people — a small group — must have developed unique methods of survival.
5. The power of the wind profoundly shapes human life. Within its domain, people must continuously make choices to adapt, endure, and redefine how they live.
Though the image focuses on the landscape, its core narrative should be constructed around the traces of human existence and the paths they have taken through time.
